Weekend Wallop!

What a crazy weekend ya'll! I have to totally re-cap because this weekend was just insane!

Friday - April 11, 2008:

Post work, riding on the 4/5 Express trains with my hunny to Brooklyn instead of uptown (where the pups are - Scooter to the right), we're heading to have dinner with my sister and friends. We were supposed to go to Sri Pra Phai, a very, very good Thai restaurant located in Queens. But apparently somewhere along the mix (it was originally supposed to be just my sister and her boyf, Ben, Me and my hunny, Kieran) we picked up several additions to the dinner party. We didn't have enough space in the lone vehicle (a VW Golf might I mention, to give perspective) and so we had to re-route dinner. We ended up going to this quaint little spot in Red Hook (Brooklyn ya'll) called "Reds Produce". Originally, I had my misgivings about going to a Tapas place as they do tend to be fairly pricey, especially in the city (Manhattan). But I checked out their website and the most expensive item on the menu (a salad) turned out to be $8. I really can't complain with prices like that! What's even better is that the food, especially the Jamon Serrano Bocadillo, was mouth-watering and perfect! The food was well-done and the staff very accommodating! It also doesn't hurt that they don't just yet have their liquor license and as a result was serving some free Spain-Imported red wine that was fabulous! It was dry and simple! Just the way I like it! The only downside is that there really isn't much space ... but I think the owners were angling for the loyal locals versus pretentious patrons (from manhattan, I'm sure!). This restaurant was a great and awesome surprise, tucked away in Red Hook. If you find yourself in that neighborhood, definitely give it a try!

Ok, for this day ... I need to first give you all an itinerary ... it's necessary for my sanity and for the sake of keeping this all in one piece.

11:30am - 1:00pm: Struggled with the MTA subway service! They decided to switch the 4/5 from express service to local service and the 2/3 from local to express, once we crossed the Brooklyn divide and didn't bother announcing that on the overhead ... bastards!

1:00pm - 3:00pm: Lunched and studied at the Burrito Bar on Flatbush Ave. Robert "blech-ed" it at first but I was starving, they weren't crowded and they had big tables that we could study on. The food was surprisingly good! I definitely recommend trying the "Mini Chimis"! Those really hit the spot!

3:00pm - 5:45pm: Hit the Brooklyn Museum with Robert, Calvin, Eddie (Calvin's boyf), Tim (Robert's friend), Milissa, Danika, Danika's cousin and her girlfriend, and Janelle. It was a large party and we went and checked out the Murakami Exhibit. Unfortunately, as excited as I was to see this exhibit, it turned out to be a total "Godzilla Moment". It was amped up to be far more than it really was and thus left much to be desired. Needless to say, I was less than impressed. I really didn't find much talent in the work that was done, although some of the statues that he made definitely "stepped outside of the box", intensely so, might I add. Once I get the pictures developed ... or uploaded ... whateva... I will post them and let you all gawk! And you WILL be gawking!

5:45pm - 7:00pm: We spent a large chunk of this time just trying to decide on where to go! It was irritating! We finally settled on this Japanese restaurant called Geido, we'd never heard of it and it looked kind of seedy/questionable inside except for the fact that it was packed! Apparently if you look at the ratings ... people rave about this place! Robert and I split a chicken roll coz we were headed post Geido, to my sister's house for an impromptu BBQ. The chicken roll was good ... but I find it difficult to mess that up. Maybe I'll have to give it another go.

7:00pm - 9:00pm: After picking up some Diet Coke (blech!) and Ginger Ale for the BBQ (that's what the hosts requested that we bring), Robert and I hopped in a livery cab and arrived at my sister's Condo. We sat down and had some good conversation and food before, unbelievably, Robert realized that he didn't have his ID!!!!! We were supposed to go to a mutual friend's "Going Away" party at a bar in Manhattan at 10:00pm and Robert had no identification on his person. Good going Bob!

9:00pm - 11:45pm: We skedaddled all the way to Robert's house, but not before picking up a bottle of Tequila so that we could pre-game. This way we didn't have to spend too much at the bar b/c we'd already have a buzz. We're ridiculous and cheap ... what can I say? Apparently our jobs aren't generous with our pay scales. I slapped on some makeup, Robert searched madly for his house keys (which his uncle came to the rescue and found for him) and then we made cocktails that we hid in my large purse so that we could drink on the subway trains inconspicuously! We are so ghetto ...

11:45pm - 2:00am: Finally made it to No Idea Bar ... phew! What a long day! Sat down with some good friends, drank and watched Jason (Ben's little bro) take his shirt off on numerous occasions for whatever reason he took his shirt off, he just did. I wasn't complaining all though I'd have to say my hunny wasn't exactly ecstatic that I was staring! LOL! I'll put those pictures up when I finally get them too! Ha! Oh and so you thought that this was the culmination of the entire day .... NOOOOOOOOT!!!! (Borat style)

2:00am - 3:30am: Everyone in our party decides that they're hungry and wanna go and get something to eat so we end up at Big Daddy's NYC diner. Where they serve HUGE burgers, have trivia cards on the table and lots of pictures of old hollywood stars and not to mention your drunk hunny leaning on you and sleeping ... fun! But you thought the fun was over?! This day was ridiculous I'm telling you!

3:30am - 5:00am: Let me tell you ... waiting at 3:30am for the 6 train to come is PAINFUL!!!! Especially if you're going all the way up to the Bronx! Not cool... well then it also doesn't help when you and your boy falls asleep on the train and you wake up just as your stop is passing by. Drat! Drat! and Double Drat! So we had to get off at the Castle Hill Avenue stop instead of the Parkchester stop and walk an extra 5 minutes to get home in the freezing night air ... well I was cold ... Kieran wasn't. I only had a track jacket on .... silly, silly girl. Well, we finally made it in ... and poor Kieran had to schlep the dogs out for a late/early (whatever you wanna call it) walk so that they wouldn't crap in the house before we finally got to sleep ... ugh finally .... are you tired too? I wouldn't blame ya. Not one tiny bit.

Just as a mention because Sunday was filled with nothing really ... except Church and then dinner with Tony and his wife (Kalina). For dinner we went to this little spot under the 3rd Ave Bridge called "Bruckner Bar & Grill". The reason why I'm giving it a blurb is because the food is definitely worth mentioning! Apparently the Schnitzel is what they're famous for ... but their burgers are totally awesome too! Go check it out if you're ever up that way!
